Room With a View
Pearched on a steep hillside with panoramic views of the sea, vineyard and gardens, this boutique vineyard is built to last. The challenge of building on Waiheke was overcome by building the timber structure off site and shipping it over for assembly. The glazing design represented a particular challenge as the sliding glazed panels each weigh over 600kgs. A system of counterweights, combined with precision detailing by the specialist facade designer makes these a key element of the design.
Constructed of a simple palette of pigmented concrete, glass and timber, all materials are durable and virtually maintenance free. The timber is not varnished, as the purple heart weathers to a silver colour naturally over time.
The construction period of 14 weeks was tight, but the clients wanted the restaurant to reopen in time for the busy Summer Season. Stanley's showed a keenness and interest in the project well beyond what was expected of them,” says client Barnett Bond. “It was a pleasure to interact with competent, experienced and knowledgeable tradesmen.”
