Fortress Hill Dry MillThe building was a demanding project involving LVL structure which was a new form of construction. Stanley Construction met this challenge and utilised the expertise of Ozzie Erections from Australia to assist with the erection of the frame. The project required a 1300 square metre building for the purpose of housing timber from the kiln and machining some of the timber. Added safety issues were enhanced by the erection of the LVL trusses which were 20 by 50 metres long requiring three cranes to carry out the lifts. Thoughtful planning and a well coordinated team ensured that this work was carried out correctly and safely. Everyone involved new exactly what was happening and what was expected of them due to multiple task analysis’s and tool box meetings with the entire team. Waiting areas for all personnel not involved with the lifts were also used as a precaution throughout the duration of the lifts. The smooth running of this challenging project along with a quality end result was achieved due to the effective partnership between the Stanley Construction Team, Carter Holt Harvey, Ozzie Erections, Hawthorne & Geddes and the many sub-contractors involved. |
