Modular construction provides the answer

When tenders closed for construction of this 50 unit apartment complex at Whitianga, the developers had a problem.

With tender prices exceeding the project budget by more than $1 million, the project manager went looking for a construction partner that could offer added value at lower cost.

Brendan Roberts, Director at Stanley Construction Limited, worked with the developer’s project manager to redesign the units to reduce cost but retain the overall quality of finish. He introduced modular construction techniques to save time and overcome severe labour shortages on the Coromandel Peninsula. Modules were constructed in a factory, transported to the site and lifted into place by crane.

The result was a high quality of construction, significant cost reductions, and a shorter construction period.
