Albany Senior High School
Design, consent and construction of a school to house 300 students in eight months time sounds extremely challenging but Stanley relished the challenge and achieved a superb result. The project consisted of 30 modules. 6 x 12 meters, 1 module 3 x 12 meters, 1200 square meters of covered concourse and 500 square meters of gym. Practical completion for Albany Senior High School was received on 8 December 2008 after 120 working days on site. This was four days earlier than the time frame required thanks to the Modular approach combined with, out of the box thinking and methodology. The initial challenge with this project was how to complete a job this size in eight months. The answer was the separation of the job into four consents which allowed Stanley’s to work on site while the modules, concourse and gym were still being designed. These modules were constructed in Matamata and every Monday night over 8 weeks four units would leave Matamata and arrive on site at 2:30am to be lifted off ready for the gib stopper by 6:00am. Due to this being a timber structure, 900 timber piles had to be placed in the wettest winter on record which involved many days of working in torrential weather. The entire project from start to finish is testimony to multiple individuals and the quality relationships with suppliers and subcontractors.
