While not all of the projects we take on are challenging, we have built a reputation for succeeding with difficult jobs. That’s because we’re prepared do the problem solving before we start work - obstacles are overcome before they present themselves.

Here are some examples of Stanley’s constructive thinking:

Off-site construction

When working on a temporary café for Ruapehu Alpine Lifts, early snow threatened to slow our progress. Our solution was to construct the roof in pre-fabricated panels and fly them into place. The roof was installed in just four hours, including insulation and an attractive internal ceiling finish.

Prefabrication to meet tight deadline

Stanley Construction were approached in October 2008 to provide a price for a 140m2 market building at Gulf Harbour. We were awarded the contract after advising the client that we could deliver within budget and timing constraints by prefabricating off-site. The two-storey building was pre-manufactured off-site in 21 calendar days and erected on-site in five days. The market building opened a day after the Rodney Council’s final inspection.

Tight budget on the tip of New Zealand

At a social function, we heard about a toilet block building project at Cape Reinga that was causing concern to all stakeholders (local iwi, Transit New Zealand and DOC). The lowest tendered price was nearly 100% over budget. We took on the project, redesigned the way it was built without changing the engineering or architectural integrity and successfully delivered it for half of the original estimated costs.

Overseas procurement frees up budget

Stanley Construction were appointed to build the Casita Miro Winery on Waiheke Island, working with an Auckland architectural company that had won the job through an international design competition. However, pricing of the prescribed low iron glazed wall systems threatened to gobble half the construction budget and halt the project before it even started. By using our off-shore procurement contacts, we were able to reduce the cost of the wall system material by 75%.

Health and safety measures win ACC ThinkSafe Workplace Safety Award

We were proud to receive the ACC ThinkSafe Workplace Safety Award at the Waikato Business awards in June 2003. At the most basic level, we encourage our employees to be healthy and well-balanced by offering a 50% subsidy on health and fitness memberships for staff and partners as part of our standard employment contract. At the other end of the scale, we consider the safety requirements for each individual job and ensure the safest possible working environment without compromising the delivery of quality service.
